Christmas can be a busy time for the best of us but for Riverside FC and Long Eaton Rugby Football Club it’s been absolutely hectic! Over the last three weeks both Clubs have been in exploratory talks looking at ways they can work together and share facilities. This culminated in a joint announcement to both sets of members on 23rd Jan that the two Clubs would be embarking on a major development on West Park.

Working together under the title 'Long Eaton Sports Club' and in co-ordination with Erewash Borough Council, the FA and the RFU, the two clubs will embark on a major extension and refurbishment of the former Clubhouse and build a series of changing rooms, meeting rooms and dedicated floodlit training for Riverside.

Riverside's project leader, Dale Bywater said, “the next step is to present the plans to the membership in a series of meetings and pitch-side briefings”. Following hot on the heels of the highly successful Dug-Out, the plan is to create a facility that the local community will be proud of and help both clubs enhance their longstanding reputations as ‘community clubs’ providing safe, enjoyable and rewarding sports for their ever-growing membership.

Riverside FC has doubled in size over the last two years and the demand for better social, training and changing facilities has been increasing day-by-day. The new development will give the Club a robust foundation to improve the quality of football and cement their position as 'the Club of choice' in the local community. At last the Club will have somewhere they can finally call “Home”.
